TBT - Old Post with New Thoughts

If you aren't on Instagram or Twitter, you may be unfamiliar with TBT, or Throw Back Thursday.  Basically, people pictures from their past and label it #TBT.  For instance, I would post a picture like this:

"That's me, bottom row, 3rd from the left.  #TBT"

But, I'm not going to do that with this post.

Instead, I'm thinking I'm going to try something on Thursdays as I try to get back on the old blogging bicycle.

TBT here is going to be when I look back on a previous post from years past and respond with an update.

For Example, on January 22, 2009 I posted "3 About Me" where I responded to Steve Gall's post on his now dead blog with multiple categories where I gave 3 answers to multiple categories.

Here's my responses in 2009 (in blue) and my 2013 response (in white)

Three jobs I have had in my life:
Lifegaurd at Nappanee Public "pee" pool (that's what we called it), Gym Monitor at Bethel College, Delivery boy of "The Paper" for downtown Wakarusa.
Landscaper for Hayseed Landscaping, host of *conVERGE webshow on Remedylive,  Student Ministries Pastor at Nappanee Missionary Church.

Three movies I would watch over and over:
Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Italian Job, Dumb and Dumber
Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Indiana Jones quadrilogy, Elf

Three shows that I watch:
LOST, Chuck, Around the Horn.
Duck Dynasty, Breaking Bad, Once Upon a Time

Three places I have been:
Jerusalem, Amazon Jungle, Etna Green.
Uganda, Kenya, DRC

Three of my favorite foods:
Spaghetti, Steak, Ice Cream
Spaghetti, Steak, Ice Cream

Three places I'd rather be right now:
Disney World, In a Hot Tub, In bed.
Disney World, Summer, Inda

Three friends I think will respond by posting this on their blog:
None
I don't know of any friends who are still actively blogging.

Three things I am looking forward to this year:
Summer Camp, Anniversary trip with my wife, that thing that I don't know about right now that will likely end up being a huge highlight.
Summer Camp, Family trip to Ludington, watching the kids grow and learn.

Three jobs I would love to have:
Professional Traveler, Disney Imagineer, the one I have right now.
Author, Disney Podcast Host, current job.

Saturday Pics

Our day has been pretty relaxing.  We went swimming and had lunch at a Country Club that our apartment grants us access to.  Moses and Katylynn are playing "ball" with Grandma right now.  He's talking and laughing a lot; clearly getting more and more comfortable around us.  His countenance has changed.  I really think he gets that he has a family.  He calls me "dada" and Janelle "mama" every once in a while.  It's still mind-boggling to think that we are all together.

Here's an Awesome Dad!

One goal I have is to consistently have my kids call me a two syllable name.  When young, I want to hear "Daddy".   When they get into adolescence and the teen years I want to see Dad become a two syllable word.  I had them.  It was those times where my dad would do something incredibly goofy or embarrassing in an effort to get me laughing.  I would look at him and say "Da-ad."  I'm not talking about making your kids feel ashamed of you.  I'm talking about those moments where, as marko says, they may be saying, "Dad, you're such a dork," they are really saying, "Dad, I love you."

Well Dave Price is my hero.  I've seen the story in multiple spots, but basically Dale caught on that his 15 year old son Rain's bus route would run back by his house after he boarded.  So, what does any caring stay-at-home Dad do?  He decides to come up with 170 different outfits to where for each day of school, stand outside as his son passes on a bus full of peers, and wave.  For example:

Check out http://waveatthebus.blogspot.com (blog done by Dale's wife) for a post on each day.  This video shows every day of pictures as well:

If you're a dad reading this, may you find ways that you can be a fool for your kids that makes memories and reminds them that they are loved!

It Just Got Personal - Part 4

To many this is a picture of a little African boy.

To me it’s Paul… the AGC Baby Center orphan who loves to swing on his swing. In fact, it seems that's all he ever wants to do. He hardly ever smiles. But if you go for his stomach and tickle like mad, the most amazing smile that could stop time comes beaming from him.

To many this is a picture of a little African boy.
To me, the African orphan crises has a name, a face and a story.

It just got personal.

It Just Got Personal

To many this is just a picture of 5 women.
To me, it's the story of D.R.C. that rocked me most.

3 of these women were raped by rebel armies while going out to collect wood.
3 of these women were abandoned by their husbands and families because they were raped.
1 was raped by 5 men at once.
1 is 6 months pregnant.

2 of these women run a ministry called Jehovah Jireh.
2 of these women are seeking to provide housing, healing and hope to 15 women who are tragic victims of the D.R.C.'s continual conflict.

To many this is just a picture of 5 women.
To me, rape and the D.R.C. conflict now have names, faces, and stories.

It just got personal.

Buzz Cocanower tot the Rescue!

This is Geoff Cocanower. He's going to have a huge impact for the sake of the Kingdom. We are blessed enough to have him investing in our Senior High right now. At Summer Camp, several students mentioned that Geoff looks a little like Buzz Lightyear. What do you think?
