My bed felt nice last night. Feels good right now as I lay here back in the American flow, surfing the net, and watching "Around the Horn" on ESPN.
I'm home. 12 days in the Dominican Republic with 21 students and 5 adults. Summed up, a great experience marked by three great aspects:
1. GREAT LEADERS -- Mark, Cindi, and Kyle Lantz, Kristy Mikel, and Janelle Prenkert. Quite honestly, when I looked at the leader makeup early in the experience, I thought we had maybe overloaded the trip with great leaders. Proof of how dumb I am. How do you overload a trip with great leaders. These 5 shared the load of work, leadership, mentoring, confrontation, instruction, all of it. They were awesome. Also, we went through an organization (Adventures in Missions) who provided four top notch leaders who dove right in with the kids and us as leaders. A true blessing.
2. GREAT KIDS -- I have never had a more well-behaved group of kids. There was no significant meltdowns among team member, no significant "bonehead moves" by students, and I never had to lay the smack down.
More importantly, I saw each student take significant steps forward in the inward and outward walk with Christ.
3. GREAT MINISTRY -- We saw significant fruit from our time in the Dominican. I could walk you through many, "Okay, that had to be God because there's no way we could have done that" stories. We were able to develop meaningful relationships with our translators, the pastors, the people of the church, and the community. More to come in a later post concerning this point.
I'm glad to be home. Ready to prep for Summer Camp. But there's a lot to process.
If you see any of these crazy people around, ask them for more info:
