Church Signs

So I'm out today with my friends Matt and Jason, and we drive by a Church sign that has one of those "catchy" sayings on it. You've seen them.

"Can You Hear Me Now?" - God

God Answers Knee-mail

How will God vote at your tribal Council?

Try Jesus... the Devil will always take you back.

These drive me crazy.
What is the point?
Do we really believe that these little sayings are advancing the Gospel and the Kingdom of God in any positive way?
Is our faith to be summed up in a slogan?
Is the message of the Gospel to be relegated to a Billboard?
If I have no relationship with Christ, what is the possibility I would read one of these little sayings and say, "Yes, that's it. My life is a wreck, and now that I know God doesn't have a last name, I'm ready to pursue a relationship with Him?"

As I read these signs, I find them to be arrogant, demeaning of people, at times heretical, demeaning of God, and offensive to the faith that individuals have given their life for.

Church signs can serve well to let people know the building's location and announce gathering times or special events. Can we just use them for that?

Let's leave the pithy sayings to our Bumper Stickers (then I'll rant about those at a later date).

Should we be saying words like "pithy?" Can't we leave those to church bulletin boards?

Of course, I'm being silly... but I am a subscriber to this blog now!

Rock on, DP!
