PEOPLE:
Yesterday, I talked to a mom whose son and daughter "aren't getting anything out of Sunday Mornings," and had a few other concerns about our program. She wasn't mean or condescending, but not exactly the type of thing you look forward to hearing.
Today, I went out to lunch with a Junior guy. We more or less made small talk. Nothing ground breaking. As I got in my car at 6:00 pm, there was a note sitting on my seat saying thanks for the several times we had gone out together. He attached $6 to the notes.
PROJECTS:
Yesterday, I was almost two hours late getting to our IMPACT reunion because I was working on the finishing touches of videos and slides for our various "Summer Reports" for the Sunday Night service. I was really looking forward to taking some time with the team over lunch to talk through what God was doing as a product of our trip. My project got in the way of this opportunity, providing a decent level of personal frustration and disappointment.
Today, I took some time to put the finishing touches on a 6-week study of Understanding the Bible (Inspiration/ Illumination/ Canonization, etc.) As I was working on it, I just kept picturing Junior Students having the lightbulbs go off as they get a better grasp of the most important book, and greatest author all time.
PEOPLE:
Today, I ran into two guys who were very involved in our Student Ministry and hungry to know Christ when in Jr. High. They begin their Senior year on Wednesday, and they are very caught up in the disease of self. Heartbreaking.
Yesterday, at the reunion, I put my phone on a picnic table so I could go out tubing. As I was walking to my car, I flipped my phone open to discover my wallpaper had been changed. Two of the gals had taken a picture of themselves sticking their tongues out. A High School way of saying "We love you." Heartwarming.
PROJECTS:
Today, I stared at a computer for about 3 hours trying to work up logos for our Fall Series, only to get nothing done. You ever walked away feeling like you had absolutely wasted your time?
Last Night, we shared with the church highlights from IMPACT, Merge, and the Summer Camps. I watched as the videos and slides I had put together helped "Tell the Story" of what had happened. You ever been frustrated as you worked with something, only to discover it was well worth your time?
These have been some of the ups and downs of the last two days.
I love what I do, and I love the people I do it with!
