An Ironic Moment

I went to Bethel today. Robert Brandt asked me to be a guest lecturer in his "Effective Teaching in Youth Ministry" class. My topic was using Media in Communication. I expanded it to being a Visual teacher as a whole. I do feel this is something God has given some level of gifting in, and I'm learning a lot as I go. I count it an honor to share with students on such an important topic.

Before heading to the class, I went out to eat with Kory Lantz, a NMC Student Ministries grad. We spent time talking life, sharing about what's going on, and a fair amount of reminiscing. Interestingly enough, as we talked about some past memories, they were centered around our shared experiences, time in Peru together, going to his games, sitting at a table and talking much like we were at that time.

Interesting that most times as I get together with grads, this is what we remember together. This is the meaningful stuff students are seem to walk away valuing in their spiritual development. They rarely say, "Remember that one message when you said..." or "When you shared that one illustration..."

I know that a top priority in my call to ministry is preaching the word of God. I know I've been called and equipped to be a communicator, but to all those pastors, teachers, leaders, out there, I'm reminded today that Discipling and Spiritual growth is much more caught than taught!
