Sunday Morning "time"

As mentioned before, I'm up for the message Sunday Morning at NMC. We're in the midst of a series, "Yes, We're Open." The picture is a life wide open, all the time to whatever God has. I've been asked to look at the topic of time on Sunday. In preperation and study, I've found some very intriguing things.

The New Testament uses 3 primary words to describe time.
  1. orah (literally hour) translates into moment. "At that moment, a man came to Jesus..."
  2. chronos (sequential time) translates into time passed or time on a clock... Herod asking the magi what time the star appeared.
  3. kairos translates into opportunity. Jesus says, "now is the time" or "my time has not yet come."
Interestingly, the least used word is chronos. The most used is kairos.

Until the mid to late 1800s clock time was not the primary driving force. There was no uniform "time zones" and each to had an individual watchkeeper in charge of time.

Here's my question I came up with, as we have become more global and relient on "clock time", are we missing that God cares much less about chronos, and much more about kairos.

His "timing" does not work like ours.

When it comes to movie clips, we're not real heavy in using them. I've thought of three great clips that capture profound thoughts on time.

Lord Of the Rings, Fellowship...just the clip up until Frodo shoves off with the boat, but the entire scene may be my favorite from all the movies.

Dead Poet's Society

The third clip is from the opening scene of Castaway, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
