American Idol - Did you see the crying preteen?

I'm not very religious in my American Idol watching habits. I tuned in at about 8:45 tonight. I just finished watching Sanjaya Malakar. He's by far the least talented singer to make it the furthest.
I think I just figured out why.
If you were watching tonight, you saw the preteen girl, Ashley, that was an absolute wreck as she looked on. Crying, shaking, and smiling through her sweet little brace face. As I watched (both in pain and laughter) these two images came to my mind:

Picture #1 - Footage of this poor girl all over Leno, Letterman, Kimmel, The View, Comedy Central, VH 1, and all the other shows that eat up laughing at moments like this.

Picture #2 - Millions of crying, shaking, and smiling preeteen girls hopping on their pink razr cell phones (that their daddy bought them), calling and texting in their votes for Sanjaya.

Back when Titanic broke every box office record imaginable, cinema gurus pointed to the most significant factor was preteen and early teen girls who had to see dreamguy Leo Dicaprio 5-6 times.

So, what's my lesson?? never, ever underestimate the power of a lovestruck preteen girl.
