Unanswered Prayer Part 9 - Explaining away prayer

This quote from God on Mute by Pete Greig has really stuck with me...
"It saddens me to see how many people today — particularly many of my friends in the emerging church scene — are quietly downgrading their belief in miraculous healing in response to their own disappointment in prayer."
One fear I've had in diving in and discussing the mysteries of unanswered prayer is that this would be seen as an effort to explain away the power of prayer.
I want to be clear that this is, by no means, the aim or goal. It's an attempt to honestly and openly look at the mystery and beauty that is prayer, and hopefully find a deeper meaning in the midst of prayer. My hope is that. It's exciting, the different avenues I've been able to engage this discussion.
  • In conversation with individuals.
  • Through this blog.
  • To Senior High on Wednesday Nights.
  • To our Young adults on a few Sundays at the end of November.
As I have begun to "lean in" to my prayer journey and unanswered prayers, I have found myself more inclined to prayer, and more excited about my relationship with God.
My hope and goal is encouragement and re engagement for those who have given up on prayer due to disappointment.
