This morning as I sat in our (NMC's) 8:00 a.m. worship service, I had a "moment".
We sang Chris Tomlin's version of Amazing Grace in the service. Here's what I saw this morning as I scanned the crowd:
We sang Chris Tomlin's version of Amazing Grace in the service. Here's what I saw this morning as I scanned the crowd:
- The lady who read the Psalm before we sang the song was in tears. She has a young daughter with a disease that took the life of her sibling. The reality of the need for Amazing Grace hit me.
- I looked to my right and saw a man whom I have deep respect for. His children have come through our ministry and they are all out serving Christ passionately. He's in the midst of Radiation, and heard some great news about the cancer. Very localized, not spreading! He could sing with honesty "I've been set free."
- The couple that were sitting in front of me just looked at each other with a big smile as we broke into the first verse. They are a couple that God has called in the midst of the marketplace to lead the charge on the Kenya Abandoned Baby Center! They are living under Amazing Grace.
- I looked forward and to my left and I saw one of our pastors wives. She's been standing alongside her husband for over twenty years. Her hands were thrown into the air out of love for her Savior. The grace is just as amazing today as it was 20 years ago!
- I looked back and to my left and saw one of our students... a Senior. In Jr. High, he was considering taking his own life. Next Fall he's on his way to begin his ministry training. He's tasted Amazing Grace, and now he is going to share it with others.
- I then took time to consider the church service I was sitting in one week earlier. It was the final service to India Family Camp 2008. In that tent was a gal from Nepal who came to that camp not knowing amazing grace. That Sunday morning, she knew the Amazing Grace.
My "moment" complete.
