Praying for a Prom Meal

Tonight, Katylynn and I hung out at a friend house while our wives went out to a movie. At about 7:30, I got a call from one of our students. It was weird when I saw who it was on the caller id, because I knew he was at his prom that night.
When I answered, I was met with a weird request. "We've got our meal, would you pray for us before we eat." Upon inquiring who was there, I found out it was about 14 students, all of whom have some level of a tie to NMC. They wanted to put me on speaker phone so I could pray. I said I'd be glad to.
Obviously, they were somewhat calling me in jest, but at the same time, it was pretty cool.
  1. I was excited as I considered those who were there are quality kids. Great kids, who love Jesus, hanging out together. On a night where I spend much time praying against the crap that is going to be happening, I was comforted to know that these students had set themselves up in a "win" situation.
  2. I was honored they would even stop to think of me in the midst of such a big night. As I said, they did it more out of fun than for deep inspiration, but I'm glad they knew that I would be game for the unique request.
Reminded that I love my job, I love the students I get to serve and invest in, and I love the opportunities I get, no matter how strange they may be.
