We are off to a good (maybe even great) start here at camp. The first day mostly consists of traveling. The students took advantage of that travel time by getting to know new people, laughing and playing games.
We got here right on schedule and everybody had about 90 minutes of free time to go swimming, get situated, play football, etc.
Tonights session really set a great tone for the week. Students took some time alone with God (TAWG) and dove into Jeremiah 29:11-13 (the passage of scripture where we are going to really be centrally located).
Jeremiah and the Connection Band ROCKED THE HOUSE (er, tent) in a major way, and there really was an awesome presence of God as we got rolling. As we sang the songs, students weren't just being energetic and loud... they were truly engaging in worship. It was exciting to see us kick off this way.
For the message, we talked Hide and Seek. We relived some of our Hide and Seek memories from childhood (and some from the past week). I showed this video from a Monty Python sketch.
Believe it or not, this video summed up the point of where we are heading on the week. As you watch this, you look at how ridiculous it would be for someone to spend 11 years in a game of Hide and Seek. As I watched the video on Youtube, I laughed over the same thought. But then God hit me with a bigger thought...
Derry, some of these students have been spending the past 13-18 years in hiding, and this is the week I want them to move from being hiders from me, and become seekers of me.
So, that is the groundwork... this week is all about moving from being hiders, to becoming seekers.
Join me in praying that God will do exactly that. I believe many are ready to engage.
Pictures tomorrow!
