.01

I rarely scream and yell at the television while watching sports. Colts football makes me do it. Cubs playoff baseball makes me do it. I now realize Olympic swimming makes me do it. The Men's 4 x 100 had me going crazy.

But, last night's 100 Butterfly had me sitting in doubt through the whole race. I couldn't cheer because I was sure the Phelps run for 8 golds was done.

Because of my new-found emotional response toward Olympic swimming, you would think I would be going nuts when the results came on the screen... Phelps wins the gold by 1/100th of a second!

Instead, I just sat there. I didn't know how to respond. I found myself resonating with the response of Phelps' mom. I can honestly say this was the first time a sports event sent me into shock.

I've made it a point to watch every one of the Michael Phelps gold medal swims. As he goes for gold medal #8 tonight, it sure seems like he has an appointment with destiny. It's been fun watching him make history.
