32 Years, 32 Memories... 5-8

Church growing up:

5. Volume Increase: (Can't remember if this is a one time occurrence, or I did it many times) I was very young. I was sitting on my dad's lap. I looked up at him while pastor Knight (Chris Knight's father) was preaching, and asked, "Dad, when is he going to yell?"

6. Saying No to Choir: On Wednesday Nights there was a children's choir program that met at 6:00, and then the regular children's program followed. I was in 6th grade and told my parents I didn't want to be a part of the choir. They agreed, but because my parents had commitments at 6:00, I had to go to the church and sit in the van until it was time for my 7:00 start time. Ryan and Chad would often join me in the van where we would turn the radio to U-93 in hopes that we would hear Ton Loc's legendary rap Wild Thing. We were in 6th grade. The lyrics were naughty. It was rebelion.

7. Florida: My Freshman and Junior year, I went to Florida with our Youth Group. We took a charter bus down to Camp Winona in DeLeon Springs, FL . It was about a 40 minute drive to Daytona Beach. My Sophomore year, 6 of us talked Steve Ross (our youth director) into taking 7 of us to stay at the camp. We worked to clean up the kitchen and meeting area in return for a free stay at the camp. Every trip is full of memories.

8. Pizza, Video Games and Calling: After a Sunday night service my Junior year, Ken (our youth pastor) invited four of us to come over to his house. He ordered Cook's Pizza and we played his incredible new game system... his Super NES. As we sat there, eating pizza and playing Mario Kart, I thought to myself, "So this is the life of a youth pastor. I could get into this." I'm not sure it was the moment of calling, but it was a little prophetic.
