Last night Janelle, Katylynn and I were invited to one of our student's homes to celebrate his birthday. After eating, he asked me if I wanted to see his room. It was what you might expect of a Junior Guy's room.

His mom pointed me to a little cubby area at the head of his bed. She said, "That's his TAWG spot." TAWG is our little acronym for "Time Alone With God." It was very cool to see a bible and journal sitting in there. What really hit me was the wall right by this area. Pinned to his wall I saw...
A postcard with letters in red saying "Why Not Today?" It was a little handout we gave at the close of a Summer Sunday morning lesson where students were challenged to make the most of every opportunity placed in their pathe.
A sheet titled "TAWG tips from Derry". It was a sheet we handed out this past January during our TAWG series where I just gave some thoughts and ideas for keeping Time Alone With God fresh and interesting.
Puzzle Pieces. At our Summer Camp, we did a TAWG experience that had various creative stations. At one of the stations, students were given puzzle pieces and encouraged to write situations or areas of their life that weren't fully making sense in the larger picture of their life. This student had held on to his pieces and put them there as a reminder.
A letter from Bislow. Caleb Bislow had sent a letter to NMC letting them know about an opportunity to mobilize church planters in Rwanda. We had given this letter to our Kenya Night leadership team and challenged them to pray about our involvment.
Two thoughts that hit me:
1. This kid gets it.
2. Never underestimate the value and power of visual aids an take-homes.
