Creativity - Part 5... It's worship

What is the imago dei in us?

Imago dei is latin for "Image of God". In the creation account, we read...
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image,in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."
Genesis 1:26-28 (italics added)

I've often wondered what is that "image of God" in us. I can't help but think creativity is a part of it. When I God created us, he gave us a mandate to be fruitful and multiply... to continue to create inside the creation he made.

Isn't that why we come alive when we have a "new" or "fresh" idea? It's those moments where I feel alive in Christ. As I seek to be creative, I find myself in worship.

I've created and orchestrated multiple "experiences" that can allow people to connect with God.
Some examples would include...
  • A two hour, 10 station guided time alone with God experience.
  • A "Pray Around the World" event where people where we transformed the Grand Hall of our church into a world map.
  • A worship night that involved no speaker and no speaking.
I've seen others have meaningful, powerful and intimate encounters with God through these experiences. What's I find intriguing is that I tend to fin my meaningful, powerful and intimate encounters with God during the creation process itself moreso than the actual experience.

Excercising creativity is an awesome opportunity for worship.
