In 4 hours, on of my favorite events of the year happens. .. the "nmc boyz" Fantasy Football Draft.
It's the 5th year of the league.
My first introduction into the world of Fantasy Sports was Fantasy Baseball. I actually made fun of Terry Bley for about 3 years before I joined in... now I'm an addict.
I only do Fantasy Football and Baseball. Each has it's own unique attributes which make it enjoyable.
Here's 5 reasons I love Fantasy Football:
5. Live Draft - 10 guys getting together at the church for 3 hours to make their picks. Plenty of wisecracks, pizza, smell, and other enjoyable moments.
4. Makes Sunday even more enjoyable - I love Sundays in the Fall. I love to come home from church and fall asleep watching the Colts game. That could be enough, but with the edition of Fantasy Football, my interest is peaked even when it's a blowout, because I want to see if I can get more points out of my guys.
3. Competition - I'm not that competitive. Let me rephrase... I'm not competitive in stuff others seem to be competitive in. I'm not competitive when playing basketball, but put a Scrabble board in front of me, and IT'S ON! Fantasy Football brings out my competitive edge.
2. Trash Talking - Our league has it's own website and message board. This message board is a great place of banter, and some of the funniest stuff I've ever read. We have some pretty creative guys in the league. When you post a message, you best bring your a-game!
1. Fellowship - The 10 owners consist of 6 students who graduated in '02 and '03, and 4 guys who were leaders in the Youth Group at the time. These are guys I've shared some great memories with (missions trips, late nights, Taco Bell runs, times at an altar, etc.). They are great friends, and brothers in Christ. No matter where we are at(one guy participated in the league while in Lithuania last year), the league gives us great reason to connect.
Bold prediction for '06. I'm going to win the regular season, and the tournament this year!!
