A Couple of Movies

I got that flu thing that everyone else on our staff has been having the past few weeks. It's a weird deal, because I feel pretty miserable, yet I can somewhat function. Today was a movie rental day.

First up, was The Guardian.
My Review - I loved this movie the first time I saw it back in the 80s. I mean, come on... the scene where hot shot punk Ashton stands up in the orientation meeting to say he's going to get his name up on the plaque... a bet to pick up a girl at a bar... it all coming together in a moment where Maverick, 'er Ashton, has to face his personal demons and realize there's more to life than being the Top Gun.
All that said, it wasn't like Top Gun was an incredible piece of art; so I could handle watching it one more time. It made me temporarily forget my flaming ears (my ears have been burning up all day).

Second, The Illusionist
Two big Magic movie's with major last moment reveals were out this past Fall. Everyone was going crazy over The Prestige, so I went and saw that in the theater on one of my Thursday afternoon adventures (there were about 6 others in the theater with me) I must say I the Jackman/Nolan film was just okay. The end of the Prestige was okay. I wasn't upset I went to see it.
I think I enjoyed the Illusionist more. I'm thinking I'm in fairly rare company on this one. It may have been that about halfway through I was uncomfortable with the tone of the movie, only to be very pleased with the "reveal" at the end.
