I have basically every message I've done shared somewhere on my computer.
I often refer back to...
...make sure I'm not repeating what we've shared recently.
...reference material that connected well when shared prior.
I'm not a big fan of "redoing" messages or lessons. I think it can become a dangerous practice as a speaker/preacher/teacher. It becomes easy to rely on rythm and comfort to carry the content and delivery of what you're sharing. I tend to think it's important to rely on the presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit when sharing.
That said, there are times I will return to an old message because it just so clearly reflects the heart of where I sense God is leading. Tonight is one of those nights. The message I will be sharing was last shared in 2003. None of the current students in our ministry have heard it. The more I'm looking into it, I'm realizing that I shared the almost identical message in the Fall of 1999 to a completely different group of NMC students. Two thoughts...
1. I'm becoming an "oldie" in the world of youth ministry to be able to accomplish this message 3 times without student overlap.
2. When it comes to speaking/preaching/teaching, there are those lessons worth repeating.
Praying tonight is one of those messages.
