As If I needed one more thing to lose my coolness...

The addition of Katylynn to 802 Locke Ct. has created a vehicle crisis. The 92 Toyota Camry (recently rolled over 200,000) is sufficient for transport of 2 people and a baby. A dog can join in on short journeys, but must sit in the passenger's seat. If a stroller, pack and play or luggage come into the picture, the dog is out and

The 2000 Mercury Cougar is a joke to transport even 2 persons and a baby. You can barely maneuver the car seat to get it into the back seat, and the passenger has to sit with his/her knees up to his/her chest.

So, the car shopping began. For Janelle and I, there was only one route to go. We just couldn't get a minivan... old people get minivans.

So, tomorrow morning, we go to the dealership to bring home our new... minivan.

Why, you ask?
1. Cost - We were looking at SUVs, and what we were getting for the cost of the minivan was sooo much better. Not just initial cost, but maintenance and gas mileage as well.
2. Space - Whether it's taking a group of students or packing for a week away, we have plenty of room.
3. Insurance - So, we're spending less on insurance for the 2007 minivan than we are on the 2000 cougar. Why? The insurance agent explained that it's simply because minivans are the least likely vehicles to be stolen!!
4. Room to grow - We really don't need that much space right now, but let's just say another adoption, or a miraculous conception is around the corner, we've got room for it.

So, when you see a silver minivan driving down the road, and can't see the driver behind the wheel, that's probably me slinking down in my seat.

Not the coolest, but the wisest choice.

And, for my life lesson, the statement above is where I'm feeling challenged by God more than ever to strive toward "wisdom" over "cool" when it comes to working with students.

There are still some pretty cool people in the minivan club. We may not look cool driving down the road, but we definitely are cool and envied when we use the money we saved by driving a minivan over an SUV when we are cruising the Caribbean. I'll take the saved money any day over the cool SUV. There's nothing cool about being flat broke, especially being flat broke while stuck in Indiana during the winter. Welcome to the club! We've been members since child #2.

A silver 2007 minivan is way cooler than a '92 Toyota Camry. Enjoy!
