We're watching the Scripps National Spelling Bee on ABC, and I just watched Michigan 7th grader Sidharth Chand spell.
He just spelled tautological.
He's clutch.
He also has a more impressive mustache than I do.
He's in 7th grade.
As an added commentary, watching the Spelling Bee is a great reminder of the awkward time that is Jr. High.
While I was typing this post, another kid got up and was given "numnah" to spell. He thought they said "numbnuts".
Seriously, this is great television!

I'm watching right there with you. Numnuh was hilarious.
Kelly and I happened to catch this too! I was hooked as well. The kid that won was from West Lafayette (where I spent 4 wonderous years at Purdue) so we were pulling for him big time. I had a nickname for the mustachio-ed 7th grader featured in your post: Iceman. Seriously, we thought he was going to toast West Lafayette kid. Every word he just nailed so quickly! He didn't even look at his hand when he was writing the words out on the back of his placard. At any rate, we loved it. Middle school is awkward, but so wonderful all the same. Those kids are great. Ok, sorry so long, I was just excited that you caught it too.
I love the spelling bee too. But am I the only one who finds a 13-year-old kid with a mustache a little creepy? He's probably a great guy with a fabulous brain. But standing onstage with the rest of them, it seemed a bit out of place.
Well, my life will go on. Congratulations to all the participants and to the winner.
