Here's an Awesome Dad!

One goal I have is to consistently have my kids call me a two syllable name.  When young, I want to hear "Daddy".   When they get into adolescence and the teen years I want to see Dad become a two syllable word.  I had them.  It was those times where my dad would do something incredibly goofy or embarrassing in an effort to get me laughing.  I would look at him and say "Da-ad."  I'm not talking about making your kids feel ashamed of you.  I'm talking about those moments where, as marko says, they may be saying, "Dad, you're such a dork," they are really saying, "Dad, I love you."

Well Dave Price is my hero.  I've seen the story in multiple spots, but basically Dale caught on that his 15 year old son Rain's bus route would run back by his house after he boarded.  So, what does any caring stay-at-home Dad do?  He decides to come up with 170 different outfits to where for each day of school, stand outside as his son passes on a bus full of peers, and wave.  For example:

Check out http://waveatthebus.blogspot.com (blog done by Dale's wife) for a post on each day.  This video shows every day of pictures as well:

If you're a dad reading this, may you find ways that you can be a fool for your kids that makes memories and reminds them that they are loved!

Youtubesday: What is the Internet Anyway?

This is from 1994 on the Today Show.  I bet Bryant Gumbel and Katie Couric wouldn't mind if this went away...

Thanks to Don Rohrer for the email link.

Youtbesday - Insane Shots

I like videos like this one. I especially like that this one was done by some students from Bethel College... one whom I know.

Youtubesday: Moment of Levity

In the midst of some fairly intense posts, I share a moment of levity. Introducing gymnast Damien Walters:

Youtubesday: Ghosting

I spent yesterday with a group of youth workers helping brainstorm for CDYC (Central District Youth Conference) that I will be speaking at this Summer. Much of the time was spent talking creative elements and session layout. One of the more enjoyable aspects is looking to popular Youtube videos or those that are just hilarious.

There I was introduced to Hamish and Andy, and their new sport ghosting. Both videos take about 3 minutes worth of setup before actually showing the sport, but they are well worth the setup.

I'm With Coco in Chicago

I've been a Conan O'Brien fan for about 10 years. His self deprecating humor and comic bits (If they Mated, In the Year 2000/3000, Triumph) are totally my style. We've actually taken some of his bits and recreated them as crowd breakers or Wednesday night openers.
I caught on Conan's Twitter Account today that he's doing a 33 City tour April-June. His site bills it as A NIGHT OF MUSIC, COMEDY, HUGGING, AND THE OCCASIONAL AWKWARD SILENCE.

Well, Janelle and I will be heading to Chicago Thursday, May 21 to sit in the back row of the balcony and enjoy the show at the Chicago Theater!

Indexed

One of the tabs on my Google Reader is titled "Creative Stuff". In that folder are the blogs/sites that I enjoy due to the humor or out of the box style. Included are...
Neatorama - THE SITE for oddities found around the world. They update a little too much.
RhettandLink - Two of the funnier guys out there.
Stuff Christians Like - It's good to laugh at ourselves.

One of the most creative sites out there is Indexed. All posts are graphs written on index cards. Some are funny. Some are profound. Some are both. I especially enjoyed this one as I read it tonight. The post is titled True for Boys and Girls

Buzz Cocanower tot the Rescue!

This is Geoff Cocanower. He's going to have a huge impact for the sake of the Kingdom. We are blessed enough to have him investing in our Senior High right now. At Summer Camp, several students mentioned that Geoff looks a little like Buzz Lightyear. What do you think?

Youtubesday - Jesus is a Friend of Mine

This video has made it's way around blog world a while ago, but when I got in my car this morning, I realized my friend Corey Mann is bringing it back. Corey, the Pulse FM morning DJ, was playing the song on the radio! I guess Sonseed just re-released the song on I-tunes. Enjoy... and cringe.

U2 on Letterman: Top 10

I laughed really loud several times and woke Janelle up.
Especially when The Edge knocked Sting.

Youtubesday: Sham Wow Song

I first became aware of Rhett and Link when somebody showed me their MTV spoof Pimp my Stroller.

They crack me up regularly. Their recent song in honor of the Sham Wow Commercial is a total winner.

Youtubesday - Funny Stuff

Sometimes something just hit's you and you can't stop laughing. This girl on her bike did that for me. Turn up the volume on your computer and pay close attention right after she comes out from behind the carousel.

Palin of Fey; You make the call

A great quiz on the Chicago Tribune site where you try to determine if a picture is Tina Fey or Sarah Palin. I got 8 out 10. It's trickier than I thought.
