Absolutely essential to a successful IMPACT experience is the adult leadership. This year, I was especially blessed to have 4 incredible leader with me... Janelle Prenkert (aka my wife), Sue Berkey, Kory Lantz, and Alison Gingrich.
It was a special joy to work with Kory and Alison. Alison is our Senior High Intern, and Kory did an internship with this IMPACT experience. I made a very intentional move to give these two a lot of leadership and ownership. It started during the training, really out of necessity, due to a very busy February for me. I handed over our 4-week IMPACT class to Kory and Alison to run with. They did a phenomenal job.
This trend continued on as Janelle and I became very intentional in letting Kory and Alison step up and lead the team in various formats and events.
It wasn't just about giving our leaders ownership; it was also about our students. I made a very intentional decision to coach and encourage our students throughout the time, but let them lead the charge in the ministry. It was awesome to see them own things like the plaza project and VBS.
In the process, I was reminded of something I already knew, but needed to have re"knewed" in me... THE BEAUTY OF EMPOWERMENT.

As I let Kory & Alison lead, and let the students own the ministry:
- I saw them shine.
- I saw them battle through the tough side of leadership, but I was able to walk with them through it.
- I saw their passion for students and missions grow.
- I saw them enjoying the fruits of their labors in a much more personal manner.
- I saw them processing the "here/there" lessons at a deeper level
