Leadership Summit - Day 2, Session 5: Craig Groeschel

For us, it started with Connection.
Then New Life Church.
Now it's Harvest Community Church.

As we've taken steps to do multi-site ministry and video venues, I started paying attention more and more to lifechurch.tv and Craig Goeschel. I have been looking forward to hearing him.

His talk is generated from his new book IT: How Churches and Leaders can Have It and Get It (soon to be added to the Derry Prenkert library.

God makes IT happen.
IT is from him, by him, and for his glory.
We can't create IT.
IT's rare that one person will bring it, but one person can kill it.
IT's caught more than taught.
You can't can IT.
IT has an upside. Wherever you see it, you see transformed life.
IT has a downside. You will draw critics. "IT happens."
If you have IT, doesn't mean you're going to keep IT.
If you don't have IT, it doesn't mean you'll never find IT.

Acts 2:42-47 The power-packed words in bold
42They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. 44All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. 46Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

What is present in those corporations/ churches that have IT?

1. They are laser focused:
A lot of churches say more ministries = better. I'd say better ministries=better.
In order to reach people that no one else is reaching, you will have to do things that no one else is doing.
But to do things that no one else is doing, we need to do what no one else is doing.
We (lifechurch) cut everything except 5 things:
Weekend Worship Service
Small Groups
Childrens Ministry
Student Ministries
Missions

Q - What are you doing that you need to stop doing?

2. They see opportunities where others see obstacles.
See potential where others see problems.
God guides by what he provides... or is it, God guides where he doesn't provide.
When it's not there, you have to see something that you didn't see before.

Q - What is God trying to show you through your greatest limitations?

3. They are willing to fail.
Those without IT, play it safe.
Failure is not an option. Failure is a necessity.
Lifechurch's firsty video teaching off-site experience failed.
You've gotta shake off the failure and shake it off.

Q - When are you going to do it?

4. Led by people who have IT.
You need to have IT, for your ministry to get IT.
You have to be you. Trying to be others (Rick Warren, Joel Olsteen, Bill Hybels, etc.)
I got down from a message and realized had become a Full-time Pastor, and a part-time follower of Christ.
In the midst of ministry, you can lose IT.
To get it back:
Craig stopped listening to other messages, reading Christian books due to the desire to copy, and let the Word of God speak to Him.
Started Fasting.
Traveled to another country.
Engaged with a lost person.

Q - If you don't have IT, what are you going to do to get IT.

Closing Blessing (franciscan):
“May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.
May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.
May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and turn their pain to joy.
And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done.

Amen.”

For some reason, when I read 'IT', I can't help but think of I-T, as in "Internet Technology." Reading it that way makes your post very confusing...

DC, I did that too, so I'm thinking, "Wow, that's pretty confident that I.T. is the way to go here - with no critical theological perspective." Then, I got "IT." (sorry).

Now, I think Craig also means we should probably quit reading each others' blogs.
