Top 2008 - Wednesday Night

Wednesday Night Youth is our High School worship gathering. As Senior High Pastor, I invest a significant amount of time and energy into this program. We started out 2008 calendar year meeting in the Gym, but kicked of the 2008-2009 School year by transitioning over to the Fieldhouse. It's a smaller room (relatively speaking) and creates a more intimate and interactive feel on the night. We covered a lot of different topics, had a ton of different worship experiences, and dove into the word in a variet of ways.

For significant ministry, the top Wednesday Night would have to be Kenya Night last February 21. That was the culminating night of months of work by Preteen, Junior, and Senior High students efforts to raise awareness, prayer support and finances for two ministries halfway around the world. The students' efforts raised over $25,000 for the Maasai Project and the AGC Baby Center. Over 800 people were in attendance on the night to watch the Talent Show, take part in the Bake Sale, and bid in the Silent Auction. The significance was seeing students from 5th grad all the way through 12th grade grasp on to the reality that they can be a part of something significant.

My personal Top Wednesday Night of 2008 would have to be the 4th Wednesday of our 5-week "Elephant in the Room series" November 12. The night was called "Understanding the other Elephant". I put myself in a room with about 130 High School gals and female leaders, and tried to answer as many of the gals' submitted questions as I could in the allotted time. What made it so great a night was seeing and hearing about the light bulbs going off in gals minds as they began to grasp the uniqueness and differences between guys and gals... and that guys may not be huge jerks all the time. It was also an opportunity to put on my "dad hat" and let the gals know that their Heavenly Father looks at them as His treasured princesses.
