- Movies: Top 5 grossing Films were Pirates of the Caribbean, At World's End, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Spiderman 3, Shrek the Third, and Transformers. There were a combined 18 plotlines in these films, even though Transformers didn't have one at all.
- Nappanee Tornado: It hit Thursday night, October 18. I'm typing this about 100 yds from where it swept through and knocked out some of Fairmont and completely demolished Dairy Queen, Taco Bell, the Car Wash and a Gas Station.
- Ruth Graham and Jerry Falwell: Two significant people in the Evangelical Christian world passed away. One was a behind the scenes, dearly loved, caring and gracious individual. The other was on the front lines, vocal, and contraversial. Both were deeply respected for putting their faith into action.
- The Mortgage Crisis: Major cracks in the economy were starting to be seen when the the phrase "subprime mortgage" became a little too well known.
- Hallows: The final book in the Harry Potter series came out. I didn't read any of the books until 2007. I read them all in about 6 weeks.
- Virginia Tech Shooting: A student went on a shooting rampage. In the end 33 were dead (including the shooter).
- Miss Teen U.S. Candidate Bombs. This video hit Youtube. So painful to watch.
- Barry Bonds: He breaks one of baseball's unbreakables... Hank Aaron's all-time Home Run record. Controversy still surrounds the whole thing as he clearly used performance enhancing substances along the way.
- I-Phones: Steve Jobs reveals mac world's latest advancement; and it's accepted by tech geeks like a drug.
