Xanga Memories - Movie Blackout

As a Christmas present, I lined up babysitting with my mom and dad (really had to twist their arms to get them to do it - sarcasm) and took Janelle out to her choice of movie and dinner. She chose "I Am Legend" (loves Will Smith) and Hacienda. We headed to Showplace 16 in South Bend. Upon arrival, we were met with a sign on the door letting us know they were without power.
We had to head over to Cinemark 14 in Mishawaka.

This little adventure reminded me of another little adventure I had at Showplace in December 2005, which brings us to todays XANGA MEMORY!

DECEMBER 8, 2005 Xanga Entry:

Weirdest thing happened today. As you may or may not know, I enjoy going to movies during the day on may day off (which is Thursday). Today I decided to go and see Rent. It was about halfway in, and I was sitting there thinking, "Man, I wasted my money on this one." I usually enjoy musicals, but I was just very unimpressed.

So, just as I'm thinking this, the power goes out in the theater. I'm sitting in a theater, pitch black, with two ladies about three rows in front of me. So I go out in the lobby to find out what's up. There was only about 40 customers in the entire building. They said that Electric company was working on the lines in front of the theater, and all the power was out. They gave me a free pass to come back anytime to any movie I choose. So, now I'm going to go to the Chronicles of Narnia for free!

Xanga Memories - Busy?

Written December 19, 2005 on my xanga blog... thought it was fitting for this time of year.

So the following scenerio probably happened over a million times across the U.S. today. Two people cross paths.
Person 1: hey, how's life?
Person 2: great thanks. How are you?
Person 1: Good. Man, I'm busy. Lot's of stuff going on. Are you keeping busy?
Person 2: Oh yeah. All kinds of things happening.

So here's my questions...
Is busy good?
Are we really that busy?
Is busy a badge we should wear or is it a curse that we carry?

So there's a story about St. Francis of Assisi. He is one of my heros. Wrote "All Creatures of our God and King." Anyway, he was a passionate, intimate follower of Christ. The story is told that one day while he was working in his garden, one of his disciples asked him, "What would you do if you found out Christ was going to return tomorrow?"

His answer: "I'd keep working in my garden."

How passionate am I right now?
How content am I?
Do I need more activities in my life?
Do I need more stuff?
Do I need more projects?

Or do I just need more Jesus?

My thoughts tonight. Somewhat random, but all reminding me that it's pretty easy to get out of focus...

Xanga Memories - Randomness

xanga memories explanation here.

From Monday, February 28, 2005

Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep Beep....if you read the first beep in a high voice, then the second in a low and keep repeating, you've just recreated on of the best noises of the week!

  • I love 24! Monday Night, 9:00 pm... TV just doesn't get much better. If I wasn't a Youth Pastor, I think I'd want to be Jack Bauer. He's so screwed up, but he always finds a way!
  • Yeah, so February is over, March is coming in like a lion... and I really don't have anything to say.
  • Blue is a good color.
  • I'm going to watch a couple of B-Ball games tomorrow.
  • My feet are cold right now, but the rest of my body is warm.
  • I love it when it's so cold I have to put a ton of covers on me to be warm when I sleep.
  • Do Cannibals get grossed out by scabs?
  • I think I'd rather have no toenails over having no fingernails.
  • I wonder if I laid outside in shorts and a t-shirt right now with my mouth open... could enough snow fall in it to make me drown before I got frostbite?
  • Which is more itchy, sand or cracker crumbs?
  • The "L" button doesn't work very well on my keyboard...llllllllLLLLllllllll I have to hit it really hard to have it register.
  • I think if I had to choose between a trip to New York or Florida, I'd choose California.
  • I had a dream last night that somebody tried to scare me by dressing up as a clown and staring at me from my bedroom window.
  • When I wake up from dreams, sometimes I'm not sure if I'm still dreaming, or if I'm actually awake.
  • Sometimes, I wonder if I'm just a part of someone's dream, and when they wake up, I won't exist anymore.
  • Do you ever wonder if your life is kind of like the Truman Show, where everybody is watching you?
  • Truman, that's kind of a cool first name.
  • Truman Capote is a famous author from the 50s and 60s.
  • I think that the worst decade (music, movies, etc.) of the last 6 would have to be the 80s, but at the same time, I think the greatest band of all time (u2) came out of the 80s... that's ironic.
  • You know what else is ironic.... well, nothing, I've got nothing.

And that, my friends, is what goes on in the mind of Derry C Prenkert on Monday nights at 10:45 pm.

I still love 24!

Xanga Memories...

A New little series that will pop up every once in a while here on the blog... xanga memories.

I've mentioned several times on this blog that I began my blogging journey on Xanga in February 2005. At the time, Xanga was where many of our students were spending their time.

I spent a little over a year on Xanga before switching over to Blogger. What I'm going to do is "repost" some of my xanga posts.

Of course, to start, it seems only fitting to put up my first ever blog post. This posted after a two week Wednesday Night Series where we covered our Fieldhouse in Cardboard as a object lesson on putting worship inside a box (original post here)...

From February 17, 2005

Here we go!

So I was talking with the one and only Jeffrey B. Simpson after Wednesday Night Youth last night, and he was telling me about the joys of Xanga. He showed me his sight, and as I looked around, I realized half of the youth group has their own sites! So, I figured I'd get my own and give it a try.

I'm not quite sure what I'm all I'm going to do with this thing, but I'm thinking there's some pretty cool stuff we could do with this thing.

It's Thursday, which is my normal Day off. I try to do as little as possible on my day off. For the past three weeks I have gone to Barnes and Noble in Mishawaka and read travel books or Fantasy Baseball magazines. Today, I actually had to go in to the church. Janelle, Jeff, Rita, and I had to take all that cardboard to the recycling bin and unload it! That was a load of carboard!!!

We'll see where this thing goes from here. NO MORE BOXES (in worship, in how I see God, and there aren't any in the Fieldhouse any more)
