I don't get myspace

I don't quite get the phenomena that is myspace. I've had an account for a while. To be honest, the main reason I had it was to check on the students in our ministry. I wanted to see that the life they are presenting in our ministry was matching their online life. There have been very few surprises.
Last Monday, I decided to go public with my myspace. Begin inviting friends.

Why?
I don't really care much for the whole thing, but I do care for the many NMC students who are using it. Today I hit friend number 70 , and it's still climbing. There are a few bands and a couple youth pastor, but mostly students.

I've had about 4 significant conversations that were spurred on by a message sent to me.
I put pictures up from Wednesday Night, and I'm seeing those pictures pop up on other's pages.
I'm going to keep students posted on what's happening in Student Ministries through regular bulletin posts.

Am I concerned about the predators out there on myspace? Yes. Parents, watch where your kids are going. Watch who their talking with. Dialogue.
Am I endorsing myspace? Not really. They're already using it.
Am I going to seek to use Myspace in a redemptive manner? Absolutely. I'm going to use myspace as a Christ Follower, and because I'm a Christ Follower.
When it loses it's "coolness" (see IM, e-mail, xanga, Vanilla Ice), I'll stop. For now, it's there, and those that are on it are worth the time.
