10 Words/ Phrases I use a lot...

  1. Hey Dude.
  2. Cool? (it comes in question format... asking if everything is okay)
  3. Does that make sense?
  4. Do you understand?
  5. ya, no. Or no, ya. (when someone makes a point and I agree with them. No idea why I do this, but can't just say ya).
  6. I'm tired.
  7. What if...
  8. In theory...
  9. How's my baby girl OR Hey baby girl?? (only said to one specific person, but it's said a lot)
  10. Hey babe (also only said to one specific person... different from the person above, but both are pretty stinkin' precious to me)

Holy Saturday

  • Death.

  • Despair.
  • Hope gone.
  • Evil has won?
  • Silence.

Sir Links-a-lot

  • Why do tweens love Hannah Montana? (theories abound here)
  • Can I only use male pronouns for God? (one man's journey and spirited discussion here)
  • Andrew's having a baby... (the miracle of life here)
  • Alvar Hanso was in the Hospital bed next to Michael? (interesting screen shots from last night's episode here)
  • Dan's son and daughter pick their brackets (they made better picks than I did here and here)
  • Is it moving or not (a picture that messes with your mind here)
  • It's all about perspective (brilliant commercial here)

Good? Friday

  • Betrayal.
  • The crowd that cheered for Him now jeers at Him.
  • Beaten, whipped, caned.
  • Crown of thorns.
  • Painful walk to "the skull".
  • Nails, spears.
  • Pain, death.
  • It's a dark day.
  • It's not a good day.
  • We must go through this Friday first.
  • Don't think about Sunday right now.
  • Just dwell on the reality of the death that has taken place.
  • Love demonstrated through death.
  • Death for you and me.
  • While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
  • "Surely he was the son of God."

At least 40 people have told me they "really like" my haircut... what does this mean?

  • The just take people at their word response - They really like it.
  • The conspiracy theory response - They actually hate it, and feel sorry for me.
  • The I'm just not telling you everything response - They really hated my long, nappy hair, and this is a kinder way to make that known.

As I'm Watching Lost: DON'T READ IF YOU PLAN TO WATCH IT STILL!

  • It’s time to find out what happened to Michael and Walt.
  • The Compass Bearing of 325 that Ben told Walt to go on at the close of Season 2 is the same bearing Faridy told Lapidis to fly the chopper in the “Eggtown” episode. (props to my lovely wife for catching this one.) *edit* also, just thought of this one; Miles asked Ben for 3.25 Million dollars in the bribe!
  • Ship Captain, “Remember what happened to the last 2 men who got in this boat”????
  • Man, the area where Michael walked out to get to his car in his first “flashback” looked a lot like like the area where Jack went to the funeral in Season 3 finale.
  • Whaaa? Moment #1 – Michael drives into a wall.
  • Tricky camera work to have Walt look out the window at Michael (clearly not Walt, but they had to do something to show him)… oh the frustration of aging kid starts.
  • Whaaa? Moment #2 – Tom talking to Michael. Before he’s dead? But how do they get on and off the island?
  • Whaaa? Moment #3 – “You can’t kill yourself. The island won’t let you!”
  • Whaaa? Moment #4 – Widmore sunk the plane down there!!!!!
  • Widmore got the coordinates to the island. Did that happen in the Season 2 finale? Those two guys in the mountains called Penny, not daddy Widmore. But… she could be working with him OR he could be listening in on her.
  • Miles… “Your name isn’t Kevin” (how did he know?) “ Don’t worry, 80% of the people are lying about something on this ship.”
  • I like Lapidis (the chopper pilot).
  • Lot’s of dead people showing up in this episode… Libby, Minikowski, Naomi, Tom.
  • When Ben is talking to Michael, is he in the wheelchair?
  • Two people killed..
    • So long Karl… you will not be missed.
    • So long Rousseau… you will be greatly missed (or will you???? are you really dead??)
  • Just think, had the writer’s strike not been resolved, this would have been the final episode of season 4. So happy that isn’t the case.
    • Because I just want more episodes.
    • That would have been a majorly awkward season finale!

3 Memorable Quotes from today

There was a drug search at school today and (two of our key leadership students) are on their way to jail along with lots of other Seniors you wouldn't expect.
-A text message I received today.
I freaked out. It was a joke.
The 2 students were taking a field trip
to the prison on the same day they were
doing a drug search at the school.

I took the person's name applying for a position and ran a search on myspace. The first one I found shows the guy applying for the position flipping off the camera. Let's see ... I think we can toss that one ... don't ya think?

A great afternoon in March!

Gas Prices

  • In 1998, when I was at Bethel and interning at NMC, I would drive from Mishawaka to Nappanee 5-6 times a week. I remember filling up at the 7/11 for anywhere from $.89 to $.97 per gallon during that year.
  • Gotten the email telling you to boycott a couple of brands will bring down prices??? It won't work.
  • How about the "don't buy gas for 1-3 days" email? It won't work either.
  • Chart for Indiana prices over the past 6 years.
  • A little widget that gives you gas prices by the state, and last year's price

Highlights from Pastor Dave's Answers tonight

  • Life Verse: I Thessalonians 5:24
  • Before being called into ministry, Dave really wanted to be in Radio. He had to surrender that over to God. Now, every Sunday morning, the message goes out to stations in Elkhart, Kokomo, Winimac, Marion, and Coldwater.
  • WFRN's most requested song is this one, which took some elements from one of Dave's messages.
  • Most loved about pastoring this church: Changed lives, and impacting the world.
  • Toughest: the life crashes.
  • The Senior Guys and Dave will, at some point, have a hot tub party!
  • "15 years from now, some of you in this room will likely be the staff in this church."
  • 15 years from now, this church will have changed in methods, but the mission will be the same.
  • "There may be someone sitting in this room who is going to be the Senior Pastor of this church." (and we all paused and said, "whoa!")
  • Keeping the fire hot... prayer partner, listen to a lot worship and podcasts on his 160 gb I pod.
  • He would tell his High School self not to waste the years he had the way he did.

  • Do you have a theme or life verse? If so what is it and why?
  • What has been the best thing about being the pastor here?
  • What has been the toughest thing about being the pastor here?
  • Where do you see this church going/ What do you see this church doing 15 years from now?
  • What is the toughest thing you've ever had to go through?
  • What do you do to keep the fire hot?

Great Teams and Mascot Names in the Big Dance

  • Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers.
  • Kent State Golden Flashes.
  • Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils.
  • Cornell Big Red (I smell a sponsor).
  • West Virginia Musketeers (I smell another Sponsor)
  • Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
  • San Diego Toreros (What's a Torero?)
  • From the "I don't think this has happened before" department... if Oral Roberts and Marquette make it to the Elite 8, they play each other. That would make it the Golden Eagles verses the Golden Eagles. If that happened, this would be the greatest tournament EVER!
